Politic Division: 9 provinces and 5 local regions (called “comarcas”).

Government: Constitutional democracy. Panama is a centralized Republic.

Legal System: It is based on the Civil Law system, the judicial revision of the legislative acts by the Supreme Court of Justice. International Tribunals’ Jurisdiction accepted with reservations.

Language: Although Spanish is the official language of the country, many Panamanians speak English.

Climate: Panama is a tropical country and the temperature is usually the same throughout the year. The average temperature is 27ºC.

Religion: Although the majority of the Panamanians are Roman-Catholics, there is freedom of religious worship and there are many churches, temples and synagogues.

Time: Panama’s hour during the year is the same as in the East of The United States of America (GMT-5)

Currency: The U.S.A. dollar. Panama’s own coins are equivalent in size and value to those in the U.S.A.

Shops: Usually, they are opened from 9:00 am. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and some open on Sunday.

Tips: Between 10% - 15% of the total account is advisable.

Driving License: Visitors are allowed to drive for up to 90 days using their foreign license.

Electricity: 110 volts; 60 cycles.

Clothing: It is advisable to wear light clothes and for business a suit for men and a pant suit for women. If you visit the Coast, it is important to wear sunglasses and a wide brim hat.

How to reach?: The best way to reach the country is by plane. There are airlines such as Copa Airlines, Continental Airlines, American Airlines and Iberia that have daily flights to the country. If you come driving, you can reach through the “Vía Interamericana”, that joins Central America. If you come by sea, you may disembark at one of our ports.
